Timothy Keller says, in his article on forgiveness, "On both a theological and a practical level, forgiveness is at the very heart of what it means to be a Christian. True forgiveness comes at a cost and is pursued intentionally within a community of believers."

Why is forgiveness the very heart of what it means to be a follower of Christ? Because Jesus' death made forgiveness possible, and forgiveness makes Jesus' death worth it. How can we truly mourn the cross and celebrate the resurrection without a deeper, more embodied understanding of forgiveness? We need to ask for and embrace God's forgiveness for us, while seeking and granting forgiveness to others. This is the mark of a true believer.

Over the next 6 weeks, we will slowly walk through Timothy Keller's article, "Serving Each Other Through Forgiveness and Reconciliation," and prayerfully apply these truths to our lives. So, Christ Church family, let's commit to emptying ourselves of grudges, bitterness, and apathy, so that we might be filled with genuine loving-kindness toward one another this season!
